A. W. Prihandita (she/her) is a Nebula Award-winning writer of speculative fiction. She splits her time between the U.S. West Coast, where she currently teaches and studies, and Indonesia, where she grew up and where her home remains. She attended the Odyssey workshop in 2023 on their Fresh Voices Scholarship, and the Clarion workshop in 2024 as their Octavia Butler Scholar. Her stories are published or forthcoming in Clarkesworld, Cast of Wonders, and khōréō, among others. Besides her Nebula Award win, she has also been a finalist for the Eugie Award and Ignyte Award. She is represented by Thais Afonso at Azantian Literary Agency.

When she isn’t writing fiction, she is a scholar and teacher of rhetoric and composition, holding a Ph.D. in Language and Rhetoric from the University of Washington. Her research areas include (but unfortunately aren’t limited to) decolonial theories, transnational writing, and translation studies. She forever struggles to balance her academic work and her creative work, though she can at least say that they influence each other.

Her dream is to own a cat or two. Yes, in this economy.

A selfie with my Nebula trophy, which looks like a transparent block with planets floating in it. I'm wearing a green off-the-shoulders velvet dress, kneeling by the hotel room table where the trophy is.

Nebula Award Win!

“Negative Scholarship on the Fifth State of Being” has won the 2024 Nebula Award for Best Novelette!

You can see the award ceremony (and my acceptance speech!) on SFWA’s YouTube page. This came as both a surprise and a massive honor, especially as I am the first Indonesian to have won a Nebula.
